Born in the town of Arita, Saga, where Imari Ware originated, OHGUSHI was inspired by the mountains and water paintings, depicted on the vessels from his childhood. Later, he resided abroad in France and Italy, starting to think about the expression of the fusion of Western culture and traditional Japanese technology.
OHGUSHI is best known for using traditional Japanese calligraphy brush pen and ink tools combined with innovative techniques. He has created a series of "Portraits of beautiful women/Bijinga" with the theme of modern women. The bold and slender brushstrokes outline the beauty of modern women through the classic and sophisticated ink painting style, showing a great sense of fashion. In 2019, he designed the limited packaging for the Japanese craft gin "ROKU" of SUNTORY, which was launched in 13 countries/regions worldwide.
